Compassion, Legacy and Life ~ Stories from an End of Life Doula

I was accepted to be a guest presenter for the 2025 #liftingthelidfestival of Death and Dying. I spoke and presented for 45minutes on the topic Compassion, Legacy & Life from an End of Life Doula’s lens. This was followed by Q&A time, moderated brilliantly by my colleague and friend, Dr Annetta Mallon. Afterwards, my fellow Doula colleague and beautiful friend Judith sent me an email…with permission and with a humbled heart, I am sharing 😌❤️

“The slides were stunning and there was so much in your sharing … the personal experiences you shared highlighted the value and the gifts that are offered through the connection between doula , client and their persons …. how can we measure the impact such connections can make …. in the life and transitions into dying and death. The re telling of those stories not only sheds light on the difference compassionate, person centered care, that is beyond the physical ,can make ….in the telling , you also offered so much learning … about what it means to really listen deeply, how to be holding sacred space with another in word ,or in silence …. the gifts of ritual , legacy , and the need to care for self … Dear friend… I could go on and on but I want to say well done . You are a change maker and the work you do is the most important in all the ways that really matter”

And the photos I have used in this testimonial are tremendously special to me and were on one of the slides I shared. They are me holding my beautiful Mum’s hand as she lay dying (2017) and then my father’s hand as he took his last breath (2022). hashtag#peaceandlove
