I was thrilled to be asked to be on a panel for Dying to Know Day 2024 #d2k #dyingtoknowday2024 an event sponsored by My Care Enterprises and Cornerstone Funerals held on 8th August 2024. Dying to Know Day is a national annual event that is about “fostering deep conversations about the one thing all humans have in common – death. The hope, on this day, is that we’ll all accept and plan our dying so that we can live even better in the present moment” (Palliative Care Queensland). We panelists each had 7 minutes to talk on topics that ranged from grief & loss, advance care planning, dying, the role of an end of life doula (me) and funeral planning. I shared some de-identified client scenarios that told a “story” about the valuable service that End of Life Doulas provide within our community. Then after morning tea, the wonderful facilitator – Kerri-Anne Dooley (CEO of My Care Enterprises) – asked us questions from the audience. What a brilliant morning as collectively we – along with other community businesses with stalls – embraced what people were dying to know! To watch all the panel speakers go to this link. (My section starts at approx. 43 minutes, but the other speakers and Kerri-Anne are rich in their sharing). Once again, well done to My Care Enterprises, Kerri-Anne Dooley and Cornerstone Funerals, Sam Major for the invite and for getting their local community involved in these important conversations.
